I like this book very much. Dr. Laskow embraces an incredibly wide spectrum of healing methods the reader can practice at home. Here is a man who delivered 1000 babies before he was 35 years old, then decided to devote his remaining years to empower patients to heal themselves and to help others do the same.
L. Lawkow demonstrates his role as a teacher of consciousness-based healing. He presents new contemporary healing techniques, includes more than 20 excercises, and an appendix with the scientific basis for healing with subtle energies by Dr. Glen Rein,
As the author of Healing Yourself with Light, I found it joyful to see how interwoven our healing books are even though we had nor met while writing them. Healing with light and with love is surely the best possible combination for success!

Facial Reflexology: A Self-Care Manual Review

Facial Reflexology: A Self-Care Manual
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Facial reflexology is a remarkably interesting and effective Vietnamese method for establishing and maintaining robust health and wellness.
The essential idea is that not only is the face crisscrossed by acupuncture channels, a.k.a. meridians that these link together scores of major acupuncture and associated points corresponding to most of the major organs of the body, but that there are 57 facial points - virtually all also acupuncture points - that correspond to reflex zones for the entire body. Carefully manipulating these points can improve the balance between the "organ" systems of the body. The system is not quite the same as any of the schools of facial acupressure that I know of.
When the Chinese, Japanese or Vietnamese speak about "organs" they are referring to the information and energy associated with the organ, rather than the physical organ itself. Someone who has no stomach still has the information and energy associated with the organ. By manipulating the points on the face, we can induce positive changes in the information, then the energy and finally the molecules and cells of the physical organ.
This well organized book contains 13 summary diagrams that locate all 57 numbered facial points and their corresponding reflex zones. The diagrams are accompanies by straightforward and easy-to-follow instruction on basic massage and pressure-point techniques.
Marie-France Muller goes on to give clear point-by-point instructions for two general health maintenance programs. There follows a dictionary of treatment suggestions for over 200 common ailments from asthma to insomnia that could form part of a comprehensive approach to treatment and the restoration of health. For each condition she offers therapeutic instructions and simple diagrams of the relevant zones and points to guide the reader.
This is a most helpful addition to the literature on natural healing, and contains a great deal of information that is not widely known in the West.
Highly recommended.

The first book to present the innovative Vietnamese method of facial reflexology' Includes simple pressure-point massage instructions that can be self-administered and that provide immediate results' Fully illustrated with easy-to-follow diagrams of 57 facial pressure points and their correspondences within the bodyIt is possible to rub certain zones of your face to relieve a backache or the beginnings of a migraine. It is likewise possible to stop a common cold from developing in less than a minute. Facial reflexology, one of the simplest and most effective healthcare methods, provides rapid relief for many of these common ailments. Developed in 1980 by Vietnamese doctors in Ho Chi Minh City as a less invasive alternative to facial acupuncture, facial reflexology uses healing principles based on the I Ching and Buddhist teachings. The therapy is simple enough that it can be self-administered by a beginner with immediate results and is also a valuable tool for healthcare professionals. In Facial Reflexology Marie-France Muller introduces this healing practice to the English-speaking world for the first time. She describes the mechanics of facial reflexology--facial diagnosis, facial pressure points, reflex zones, massage and pressure techniques--and provides healing routines both for treating acute ailments and maintaining overall good health. Included is an extensive dictionary of more than 200 common ailments, accompanied by therapeutic instructions and easy-to-follow diagrams of the points to be stimulated, for complaints such as indigestion, asthma, pinched nerves, fatigue, insomnia, menstrual cramps, migraines, high blood pressure, sprains, pulled muscles, and even the common cold.

Biogenealogy: Decoding the Psychic Roots of Illness: Freedom from the Ancestral Origins of Disease Review

Biogenealogy: Decoding the Psychic Roots of Illness: Freedom from the Ancestral Origins of Disease
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This book is a translation of the author's French language book about the concepts and implications of the "New Medicine" generated by research of Dr. Hamer. The ideas are well presented for the layperson, with numerous analogies and metaphors. The basic ideas are revolutionary to the existing paradigms which dominate medicine. In the biodecoding process of this field it is understood that psychological conflict lies at the root of illnesses, with observed symptoms being the mind-body system's tool to deal with a conflict. Many case studies are described and the author reports how Dr. Hamer and others have used brain scans to correlate how these psychological/emotional issues are communicated through brain relays to associated organs and tissues. This book is an excellent introduction to these ideas. Some interesting philosophical and metaphysical conclusions are offered in this book, with these being in my view the only areas of weakness to the overall presentation. Soul memory is presumed in this book to be ancestral memory (rather than an additional layer of memories/programming from incarnations that exist independent of one's family lineage, the idea I consider most plausible). The discussion of destiny seems incomplete and paradoxical, though it does stir thinking about the nature of how circumstances come into being and how shifts in consciousness and awareness can shift one's path and experience. Using illness as a catalyst for transformation and resolution of underlying psychospiritual issues is an important model for those seeking to understand the healing process. The author acknowledges that a broad spectrum of therapies may assist in this process, while he shows how "detective work" of some sort is vital to facilitating genuine healing and resolution of illness. I think this is a good book for the public to read, as it takes ideas of people like Louise Hay into a deeper extent of illumination without going into excessive detail; details of decoding processes and mapping of the mind-body system are presented in workshops for professionals which can be found by searching online at websites mentioned in this book.

Reveals the psychic causes of illness and how to decode and resolve them' Explains how we inherit illness from our ancestors via cellular memory and provides protocols for diagnosis and treatment' Demonstrates how illness is an ally that enables individuals to restore balance to both their life and that of their family treeBiogenealogy: Decoding the Psychic Roots of Illness offers protocols for diagnosis and treatment for conflicts that can span generations. While the idea that emotional stress lies at the origin of every illness is becoming more readily acceptable today, it also is possible to trace the root cause of an illness to our ancestors--their unresolved psychic distress can become part of the cellular memory inherited by their descendants. Until the issue has been settled successfully, it will continue to trigger illnesses in the generations that follow to offset the mind's inability to resolve the problem. Illness is the body's way of protecting those who experience severe emotional shock or excessive amounts of stress.Illness is therefore an ally, rather than the adversary conventional medicine purports it to be. Understanding illness in this way directs us to look for the psychic conflict that underlies it in order to eliminate the disease, rather than merely dealing with its overt physical symptoms. For example, diabetes, which creates excess sugar in the bloodstream, can be triggered by the stress caused by feelings of powerlessness: To compensate for the sense of powerlessness, the body manufactures more sugar to fuel the muscles. To stop this excess sugar production, the psychic distress beneath it must be resolved or it will be passed on to the next generation. When we discover the solutions that create harmony in the body and in our life, the body will no longer have to manufacture illness to restore a sense of balance, and illness will no longer be part of the bequest we leave our descendants.

Trigger Point Self-Care Manual: For Pain-Free Movement Review

Trigger Point Self-Care Manual: For Pain-Free Movement

While the Trigger Point Self Care Manual has a lot of good information for the lay person, with good reference charts on pain patterns. It doesnt, for some reason, cover TrP's of the hands and feet. This to me seems very strange as there are some major TrP's missed. The book is also a little hard to follow as the referal pattern pics for each TrP can only be found at the start of each chapter. It would of been much more user friendly to place the pain referral pics along side the TrP pics.
For my money I would buy the Trigger Point Therapy WorkBook by Clair Davies.

A guide to the treatment of pain from common sports injuries and other physical activities' Contains at-home techniques to promote healing and self-awareness of the body's musculature' Explains how to relieve pain using manual massage in conjunction with small physio balls' Includes an illustrated treatment reference section organized by region of the bodyThe vast majority of physical injuries incurred by active people begin with muscular injuries that are not addressed by the conventional medical approach to orthopedic care. Injuries of this type are generally too minor to warrant splinting, casting, or medication and often do not prevent participation in physical activities. They do, however, produce noticeable discomfort and, over time, frequently lead to more severe injuries. In Trigger Point Self-Care Manual Donna Finando presents methods for the healing and prevention of musculature injuries. She identifies the causes of and remedies for areas of muscular tightness and restriction and details many self-care techniques, including precise self-massage, stretching, and the use of wet heat and/or ice. In the fully illustrated reference section, organized by body part, she identifies the pain associated with trigger points in each muscle of the body and provides instructions for palpating, treating, and stretching the muscle in order to release it.

The Biogenealogy Sourcebook: Healing the Body by Resolving Traumas of the Past

The biogenealogy sourcebook is an excellent reference based on Dr. Ryke Geerd Hamer's discoveries of how psychological conflict leads to illness. It also includes the work of Dr. Claude Sabbah who has improved and expanded on Dr. Hamer's disoveries.
The book is very useful and detailed giving suggestions on what conflict may be causing an illness. Resolve the conflict and cure the illness.
I have personally used information in this book to help patients go into spontaneous remission for cancer and other chronic "incurable" diseases.
I would personally like more case studies, however it gives you a good direction to explore conflicts to bring about resolution from the illness.

A practical guide to the correspondence between emotion, organ systems, and disease • Identifies what emotional shocks will engender illnesses specific to a certain part of the body • Shows how illness is an ally that enables individuals to restore balance to their health Biogenealogy is a comprehensive new vision of health that takes the mind-body connection one step further by identifying and consciously addressing the emotional shocks that create physical disorders. Each symptom of an illness precisely indicates its emotional origin. Thus, far from being an enemy, the physical symptom is actually a valuable ally that provides the key to the cure of the physical disease as well as resolution of the emotional imbalance that created it. Christian Flèche, the leading researcher and practitioner in the field of biogenealogy, explains that the "activation of illness" is the body's reaction to unresolved events that are frozen in time. These unresolved traumas affect the body on the cellular level and manifest in minor as well as more serious chronic conditions. In The Biogenealogy Sourcebook, Flèche systematically chronicles all the major organs of the body and specifies the types of emotional conflicts that lead to illness in those areas. For example, he explains that conflicts of separation are evidenced in diseases of the skin; a reduction of self-worth or deep anguish will manifest in the lymph nodes. He also shows that unresolved emotional issues can also be passed down to future generations if left untreated. Intended for therapists, researchers, and any person who wants to take his or her health in hand, this book is an important guide to understanding and decoding the causes and not just the effects of illness.

This book is well organized and gives a good introduction to the background and philosophy of Chinese medicine if you are interested. The photos are clear and easy to follow. The large format of the book helps beginners to learn. I used some of the techniques for headaches and it worked-- no aspirin necessary. I also tried it for my teenage son to calm him when he could not fall asleep; he fell asleep within minutes. Keep this reference book near your medicine cabinet and reach for it instead of the usual drugs. You will be pleasantly surprised.

Acupuncture Imaging: Perceiving the Energy Pathways of the Body Review

Acupuncture Imaging: Perceiving the Energy Pathways of the Body
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Given the two prior negative reviews, I feel its important to provide a balancing input, particularly since I did fully enjoy this small book.
There are hints given toward the end of this book about why he uses the term "imaging". With intentional experience and time devoted to Seem's style of evaluating the person, their meridians as a whole instead of just a few selected points, before touching in order to intuitively perceive ... he suggests that some people may learn to "see" energy coursing and the places where there might be obstructions. I agree the title may lead to a little disappointment. The book is more about trying to understand the deeper dynamics of energy management in the body and prodding of it by manual exam and acupuncture rather than "imaging" in the typical use of the word.
However, if one approaches the book with an open mind, there is a lot of helpful information here. It is not a comprehensive textbook on how to learn acupuncture, and does NOT pretend to be. It is assumed that one already has acquired the basics from some perspective such as TCM, 5-Elements or one of the physicians' medical acupuncture disciplines.
Bob Flaws, in his introduction to the book, describes Mark Seem as an acupuncturist's acupuncturist, referencing the fact that Seem has devoted his career and teaching to refining a particular form of acupuncture focusing on the body's innate energetic pathways that are independent of other "assists" such as herbal preparations. As such, this short book of about 100 pages, attempts to summarize a starting point for exploring acupuncture from an energetic framework. He intentionally speaks more as a philosopher and educator rather than a "technician", sharing the accumulated impressions he has gained over his career using a psychosomatic and phenomenologic approach.
His emphasize on recruiting patients to be responsible, active participants in the pursuit of their own healing, rather becoming the passive recipients of treatments or pills is refreshing. That's always a challenge no matter how much desired for most practitioners of the healing arts. He attempts to explain how he engages his patients in this process specifically for the medium of acupuncture. These efforts are quite valuable -- yet their significance may be lost when one is at the start of acupuncture training and still attempting to absorb the massive amount of required material. Its more the type of information to which one returns after reaching a plateau that prompts a need to re-think how one organizes their own approach to the discipline. I anticipate I will want to re-read it intermittently.
Seem's pre-acupuncture background was in philosophy and psychosomatics. He then trained in a Canadian school of French-Chinese energetic acupuncture. This approach became known in France dating back to the early 1900's due to the work of George Soulle' de Morant, a Frenchman who spent at least 2 decades in China, was fluent in Chinese having learning Mandarin as a child, and translated/catalogued many original manuscripts in order to document techniques of the pre-communist era while working with Chinese physicians and acupuncturists. de Morant was awarded the highest national Chinese award for civilians and was considered a Chinese Doctor among the Chinese. He eventually returned to Europe where he was known as the Father of Energetic Acupuncture. (Besides his books on acupuncture, de Morant was a prolific writer/translator on many different aspects of Chinese life and literature.)
This French-Chinese model differs from newer TCM approaches, which at least for awhile dominated China after the Maoist reform (1950's) and also dominated the American scene when acupuncture first migrated here. Seem's book does have several recognizable features in common with the training provided to physicians through the Helm's Institute, whose founder also trained in French-Chinese energetic acupuncture in France.
Mark Seem begins with a helpful historical review regarding the development of the different schools of acupuncture and why he personally became invested in the approach he uses. He is the founder of the Tri-Sate College of Acupuncture in New York City, and has been a major national leader in training and organizations for licensed acupuncturists. He acknowledges several other sources that have influenced the development of his style that an interested reader may want to pursue for further detail (such by those by Royston Lowe, Yves Requina and Kiiko Matsumoto. The latter being a particular good source for information on Japanese meridian work. )
There are a few summary tables and diagrams but no specific treatment protocols, in keeping with his phenomenological approach of following the message he encounters from the patient's body -- not some predetermined formulae attached to either an eastern or a western medical diagnosis. That's the point.
He broadly describes his journey through a treatment process from surface energetics, through tendinomuscular meridians and then to deeper interconnections among principal meridian and/or curious meridian pathways. I strongly anticipate that travelling with him through this journey will gain in meaning the more experience one gains with acupuncture if the commitment is to move beyond "cookbook recipes" for treatment protocols.
His other textbook which I have not yet read seems to likely be more comprehensive on the basics of his style, called BodyMind Energetics.

A practical guide to the bodymind-energetic approach of acupuncture

' Explores French and Japanese influences on acupuncture and the resulting stylistic variations in the contemporarypractice of this ancient technique

' Includes guidance on treatment planning and implementation for practitioners and their patients

A pioneer in the field of body energetics, Mark Seem explains in Acupuncture Imaging how bodyworkers and their clients can develop a clear understanding of the energetic systems of the bodymind to arrive at a personal approach and treatment style in acupuncture and all other meridian therapies. He shows how to recast and reconceptualize physical, emotional, and psychological problems in terms of disrupted energy flow, enabling readers to see, feel, and experience these disturbances in a way that allows for change. By approaching the meridian systems in visual and sensory terms, a practitioner is able to tell the energetic 'story" that he or she is exploring with a patient, thereby guiding and assisting the healing process. Acupuncture Imaging will be of great help to students, teachers, practitioners, and patients of the diverse energetic and meridian therapies, particularly shiatsu and acupressure, as well as psychotherapists and those interested in Eastern concepts of medicine.

The Handbook of Chinese Massage: Tui Na Techniques to Awaken Body and Mind

Ms Mercati gives the reader a good overview of this style of massage. One problem many books on Eastern medicine concepts is that the scientific paradigm of qi, yin-yang, etc is difficult to grasp for someone who has been educated on Western scientific principles. This book starts with an introduction to the Eastern principles in a more understandable, concise fashion. This makes it good for a massage therapist who wants to expand his repertoire. At times, the anatomical descriptions are inaccurate eg: referring to the malleolus as an "ankle bone"; however, the informal style of the book keeps it interesting and readable, as well as informative.

For the first time in the West, Chinese tui na massage techniques are brought together in an easy-to-use method for whole-body health
The Handbook of Chinese Massage integrates classic Tui Na (meaning push and grasp) techniques used in the Orient for centuries into a revolutionary method for health and well-being. Traditional Chinese massage practitioners use specific individual techniques to treat a wide variety of ailments--techniques demonstrated in this book. But after years of study in China, Indonesia, and Thailand, Maria Mercati has taken these separate techniques and combined them into a whole-body treatment never before seen in East or West. Tui Na massage stimulates the flow of qi, vital energy, in healthy individuals as well as sick ones. It requires no special equipment and is simple enough to do at home or in a chair at work.

The Handbook of Chinese Massage includes step-by-step instructions for each of the fifteen unique tui na techniques, many of which are unfamiliar to Western massage practitioners.

More than 100 color photographs and diagrams clearly show where to place your hands on the body and where to find the key meridians.

The Healing Power of Neurofeedback: The Revolutionary LENS Technique for Restoring Optimal Brain Function Review

The Healing Power of Neurofeedback: The Revolutionary LENS Technique for Restoring Optimal Brain Function
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have the good fortune to be one of Len Ochs patients. (He is the developer/creator of the LENS technique.) Because of this I am strongly biased in favor of the methodology as it has changed my life. I had no bias about the book prior to reading it but found it to be an excellent introduction for anyone about this treatment methodology.
The book is easy and interesting to read and understand and the case studies are truly heart warming and hope inspiring.
More important is the actual subject matter, the LENS technique. The Lens technique feeds-back to the brain a tiny micro-dose of whatever its most dysfunctional brainwave pattern is--the essential definition of homeopathy (a micro-dose of whatever is causing the problem or of the problem itself). The end result is that the noise is removed from the brain wave patterns and the full human being that has been hidden underneath has a chance to emerge. I'm sure the EEG software was not simple to write but the overall concept is elegantly simple and the whole method very objective and straightforward.
I would be what is classified as a "tough case". Most of my brain dysfunction is a result of prenatal and early infancy developmental trauma. My understanding is that this type takes much longer to change and receive benefit. After 30+ years of various therapies and process work and 35+ years of dedicated meditation practice I had changed quite a bit but my core of anxiety and fear, a sort of PTSD physiology, was unchanged. After some months of having the great good fortune of being treated by Dr. Ochs himself, I am calmer, happier, sleep better and am more emotionally available. Just ask my wife or my therapist!
The only downside is that there are as yet so few trained practitioners. So I recommend reading this book and then giving to your favorite alt.oriented doctor or therapist and see if you can get them interested in taking the training.

The Brain Injury Association reports 1.5 million injuries, many of which go undiagnosed but which lead to all kinds of cognitive and emotional impairments. While neuroscience has learned an enormous amount about the connection between brain trauma and personality changes, the methods proposed for resolving these alterations are generally limited to drug therapy or surgeries. This book explores a much less invasive but highly effective technique of restoring brain function: the Low Energy Neurofeedback System (LENS). Developed by Dr. Len Ochs in 1992, it has had extraordinary results using weak electromagnetic fields to stimulate brain-wave activity and restore brain flexibility and function. The treatment works across a broad spectrum of human activity, increasing the brain's abilities to adapt to the imbalances caused by physical trauma or emotional disorders--both on the basic level and in the more subtle areas of cognitive, affective, and spiritual processes that make us truly human. While the treatment has had remarkable results with individuals who have experienced severe physical trauma to the head and brain, Stephen Larsen sees it also as an important alternative to chemical approaches for such chronic behavioral disorders as ADHD and monopolar and bipolar depression.

The Spice Lilies: Eastern Secrets to Healing with Ginger, Tumeric, Cardamom, and Galangal Review

The Spice Lilies: Eastern Secrets to Healing with Ginger, Tumeric, Cardamom, and Galangal
Average Reviews:

I bought this book because I was interested in learning more about ginger, turmeric and cardamom and what they could do for my health. None of the books about this subject had any comments on amazon (US, France or UK) so I decided to buy this one as it was about all three. Well.... bad choice. The book was so uninteresting that I don't even remember what it was all about. Honestly, it is not a book you read with interest. There is some information that might come to be useful but I don't know, in the whole it didn't catch my fancy at all. Moreover, being about four spices (it also includes galangal) I thought that it would be a bigger book with a lot of information and tips but no, it is a tiny book. Maybe I try one of the other ones next time.....

A doctor's astounding story of promising new treatments from the rainforests of Brazil for diseases that compromise the immune system.
During a working visit to Brazil, Dr. Thomas David was given a packet of leaves and bark by a native patient as thanks for his work, and a shaman gave him a recipe for a tea used by the rainforest people to treat a variety of ailments. Dr. David began using these plants in his clinical research in Europe and soon discovered that they were producing amazing results among patients suffering from cancer, AIDS, and other diseases that compromise the immune system.
Preliminary studies performed at Stanford and Harvard have substantiated his findings, bringing Dr. David international attention for his groundbreaking work.
Dr. David's story is significant not only for its account of research that may herald a major breakthrough in curing diseases that have been the scourge of the modern world, but also for its emphasis on the vast and largely unrecognized pharmacopoeia of the rainforest that is in imminent danger of being lost forever.
