This book is fantastic, because it begins with the basic theory of acoustical physics, and it develops some chapters on ultrasound application. Great opportunity to learn with Dr. Cobbold!

Practical MR Physics Review

Practical MR Physics
Average Reviews:

Practical MR Physics is an excellent addition to any department's library. The physics of MR are addressed in clear concise terms and presented in an understandable format. What really sets this text apart is the authors approach to imaging artifacts. Through real world case presentations, the readers are educated about the artifacts encountered, their underlying causation, and methods for elimination. I have added this book to my recommended reading list for MRI Students, and also recommend it as a valuable resource for practicing technologists.

The underlying physics of magnetic resonance imaging is a topic of considerable importance since a basic understanding is necessary to accurately interpret and generate high quality MR images.Yet it can be a challenging topic in spite of the best efforts of both teachers and students of the subject. Practical MR Physics reviews the basic principles of MR using familiar language and explains the causes of common imaging artifacts and pitfalls. The book will also be a helpful guide during review of clinical cases since the reader can look up specific imaging artifacts or pitfalls in the index. Featuring over 375 high quality images, numerous case examples, and concise, clinically oriented discussion of the physics behind the images, Practical MR Physics is an ideal resource for anyone who works in the field of MR imaging.

The Neurosurgeon's Handbook Review

The Neurosurgeon's Handbook
Average Reviews:

Perfect for ambitious 4th year students and junior residents. It will not replace Greenberg, and should not, but is far better for learning during the initial stages of residency. It reads very easily and covers the essential points on most all neurosurgical topics. Very nice figures, diagrams, and tables. I highly suggest every intern and junior level resident start here to establish a framework from which to build a strong neurosurgical knowledge base. Supplement with other Greenberg and other well-known resources as needed.

The Neurosurgeon's Handbook is compact, readable, multi-authored, extensively illustrated and authoritative source of high quality neurosurgical information; it is the ultimate companion to neurosurgical trainees and neurosurgeons around the world. Based on the curriculum of British, North American and European neurosurgical training Programs, and with the contribution of some of the worlds leading neurosurgeons and neuroclinicians, The Neurosurgeon's Handbook has been produced with the highest possible standards and it concisely covers all aspects of adult and paediatric neurosurgery. It is systematically, meticulously and clearly broken down into easy-to-follow sections that contain condensed but comprehensive neurosurgical information. Over 18 sections and 113 chapters, all critical neurosurgical information is systematically presented to include clear definitions; epidemiology, pathophysiology and mechanisms of disease; neuroradiological and neuropathological features; critical care and neuroanaesthesia; clinical presentation and differential diagnosis; treatment; critical surgical anatomy and step-by-step key operative techniques of the brain, skull base and spine. The material is based on clinical trials, major clinical series and the extensive personal experience of some of the worlds best neurosurgeons and neuroclinicians who contributed to the handbook. Hundreds of imaging studies, neuropathological photographs (some in full colour) and anatomical and surgical diagrams supplement the text which is methodically organised to allow understanding of all complex neurosurgical concepts of adult and paediatric neurosurgery. Widely accepted practice guidelines, major classification schemes, commonly used neurological scales, significant syndromes and constellation of key signs and symptoms are found in 188 tables, presented in a way easy to understand and remember.

Diagnostic Ultrasound Imaging: Inside Out (Biomedical Engineering) Review

Diagnostic Ultrasound Imaging: Inside Out (Biomedical Engineering)

This book is a good mix between overview physics for the clinicians and details for ultrasound researchers. It has been invaluable to me for teaching the residents the physics behind non-linear harmonic generation and contrast agents (Chapter 12 and 14) for example. It has good images and examples showing the advantages of harmonic imaging and imaging with contrast agents over standard fundamental imaging. It has also been good for research details with equations and has a comprehensive set of references -- helpful for doing research in the area. In summary it has a intuitive physics and detailed equations -- therefore works for a wide range of people.
