He illustrates his tips with real-life examples (photos and drawings) and amusing anecdotes, so you can see the logic behind his suggestions and know what to avoid doing too. The section on poster presentations was very helpful-- it includes a drawing of a real poster so that you can see an example of a good layout. The book is well-organized, easy to follow, and has really helped me avoid so many of the pitfalls that commonly plague science presentations.
